Latin Name: Brugmansia
Description: Large fast growing shrub or small tree (up to 6
feet tall) with large trumpet-shaped (or funnel shaped) hanging flowers
up to 1 foot long with 5 lobes at the tip. Colors range from white
to pink to yellow to apricot.
Symptoms: Produces varied toxic effects. Causes vomiting, abdominal
pain, cramps, and diarrhea. Other symptoms may include hallucinations,
dry mouth, muscle weakness, increased blood pressure and pulse, fever,
dilated pupils, paralysis. Toxins involved: Atropine, scopolamine,
and hyoscyamine.
Poisonous Parts: Flowers, leaves, seeds.
Treatment: Unless your cat is unconscious or having convulsions,
induce vomiting and follow procedures to delay
absorption and speed elimination. Get prompt veterinary assistance.
