Known as: Autumn Crocus, Meadow Saffron
Latin Name: Colchicum autumnale, Colchicum

Description: Native to Europe and not a true crocus, this plant
takes its name from its unusual pattern of flowering. In spring, several

poisonous alkaloids, the principal one being colchicine.
Poisonous parts: All parts. Toxins involved are
colchicine and other alkaloids.
Symptoms: Gastrointestinal distress and dermatitis.
