Latin Name: Caladium genera, Xanthosoma genera of Araceae family
Description: Commonly grown house and garden plants valued for
their showy leaves. There is wide variation in the colors and markings
of the plants. The leaves are large, single blades on long stalks
growing out of corms.
Poisonous Parts: Corms and leaves which can contain
needle-shaped crystals of calcium oxalate that causes an intense, burning
irritation if eaten.
Symptoms: Oral, pharyngeal and esophogal irritant.
Salivation and edema (swelling).
