Known as:  Bachelor Button, Bluebottle, Bluebow, Blue Cap, (Garden) Cornflower, Hurtsickle
Latin Name:  Centaurea cyanus (Asteraceae)
Description: Often grown as a garden plant but also grows wild in some climates.  Starlike flowers originally of brilliant blue but now also available in white, pink and red.  Flowers retain their color when dried so they are popular in dried flower arrangements as well.  Grows up to 3 feet high on tough, wiry slender stems that are branched, angular and covered with grey hairs giving a cottony appearance and making the foliage appear silvery.  Leaves are narrow and long and alternate on the stem.
