Known As:  Lupine, Bluebonnet, Quakerbonnet
Latin Name: Lupinus spp.
Description:  Palmately compound leaves with up to 15 leaflets.  Tall spikes of pea-like flowers which turn into flat seed pods.  Flowerspikes can be blue, white, purple, magenta or bicolored.
Poisonous Parts:  All parts, especially seedpods.  Mildly toxic.  Contains alkaloid lupinine.
Symptoms: Causes vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhea. Breathing problems, behavioral changes, trembling, birth defects, coma, death.  Signs can develop within an hour or take as long as a day.
Treatment: Unless your cat is unconscious or having convulsions, induce vomiting and follow procedures to delay absorption and speed elimination.  Get prompt veterinary assistance. No antidote.  Let cat rest as stress can worsen the symptoms.
