Latin Name:  Nicotiana spp.
Description: Member of the Nightshade family.  Tall plants with large hairy leaves and terminal clusters of tubular flowers on short stalks.  Flowers may be white, red, lavender, yellow-green or yellow.
Poisonous Parts:  Leaves.  Second-hand smoke.  Low toxicity.  Toxins are the alkaloids nicotine and pyridine which have an irritating effect on the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system.
Symptoms: Gastrointestinal irritation, trembling, staggering, weakness, breathing problems, heart problems, collapse,
birth defects, death.
Treatment: Contact your veterinarian if cat has severe signs.
